Art is the offspring of visual stimulus, and arts and handi-^ch ?^n contribute to the well-being of both children and adults, particularly in a tliejr anically ordered world which tends increasingly to deprive human beings of ^natural urge to create and make things for themselves. t^e b^ief that art can make a positive contribution to the mental development of at a TJW has been growing since the end of the first world war, and in 1953 an exhibition ^r'stol U ^CO conference of twenty-two nations on the subject of Child Art, held at to University, showed clearly that much thought and experiment had been given educational value and practice of art by children. by which is an expression of creative talents is not capable of being tested effectively Past ^ydstick of examination, and for that reason it often met with neglect in the j' Particularly in grammar schools. that Sat*sfactory, however, to be able to look round many schools today and to see be ^ rt ls now regarded as one of the subjects by which character and personality can hist0, ed and developed through its practice, and also, that through a study of its y> a clearer view of world history may be gained.
